Research, Enterprise & Graduate Services supported the delivery of over £155 million of research in 2015/2016. Our growing research portfolio has led to an increase in the demands on professional service teams and we are seeking to recruit an exceptional individual to join the Research Contracts Team to provide legal and contracts support to the academic community.
The University delivers a diverse research programme and projects can often be multi-institutional, cross-disciplinary and complex in nature. The work will include working in collaboration with colleagues across the University’s academic and professional service departments and with a variety of external stakeholders. This includes negotiating with commercial sponsors, collaborating institutions and charitable organisations.
We are therefore seeking an individual with experience of drafting commercial agreements with excellent commercial awareness, drafting skills, negotiating skills and the ability to deliver on a diverse portfolio having regard to project requirements, external stakeholder requirements, legal requirements and effective risk management on behalf of the University. The role holder will require excellent communication skills and project management skills.
Each Legal Contracts Officer provides dedicated support to a group of schools and departments on their research portfolio. Duties are focused on reviewing and negotiating research related agreements including research contracts, collaboration agreements, framework agreements and clinical trial agreements. Additional responsibilities include providing commercial and legal advice throughout the project lifetime, developing and maintaining standard templates and providing training and support to junior members of the team.
Candidates must have experience of working in a research contracts or commercial contracts environment and have proven track record of managing a complex and diverse case load and working in a deadline driven environment. A valid practising certificate and experience of working with higher education clients would be highly advantageous.
